Colossians 1.9-23 Translation Now Up

26 05 2008

Here.
You know the drill. Translating is a communal process :)

On the Christ hymn of verse 15ff, I have set off both verse 19 and 20 in the same way as the rest of the hymn because it continues to use a lot of the same language: Prepositional phrases such as ἐν αὐτῷ, δι’ αὐτοῦ, and εἰς αὐτόν, as well as the εἴτε… εἴτε construction.

I’ve tried to show the repetition of the phrase “he is” by making most of the clauses that contain it flush with the left side (not indented). I’ve also tried to show the repetition of the prepositional phrases by front loading them in their clauses, but I’m thinking about placing them at the end of the clauses to give more balance with the “he is” statements. Literary style pointers would help (*cough*ElShaddai*cough*).

Well…I’m not commenting on the above post, but I’m commenting nonetheless.

Just wanted to apologize for not being able to talk with you on Sunday. It would have been good to at least have a short conversation.

Talk to you soon, brother.
